A Parent’s Decision:  Website Launched January 2014 - Updated February 2014, March 2014, September 2014 and October 2017

I am at great pains to dispel the gross untruths perpetrated by the anti-circumcision lobby. They may mean well, but unfortunately if their propaganda prevents any child from being circumcised, it is very sad, especially for the child concerned.

You need to be aware of some of the untruths:

You may like to read this selection of articles/reports on the subject of circumcision on the AAP website (all links opening in a new window):

New Evidence Points to Greater Benefits of Infant Circumcision, But Final Say is Still Up to Parents, Says AAP

Dated: 27 August 2012

New scientific evidence shows the health benefits of newborn male circumcision outweigh the risks of the procedure, but the benefits are not great enough to recommend routine circumcision for all newborn boys, according to an updated policy statement published by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). The revised policy, like the previous one from the AAP, says the decision whether or not to circumcise should be left to the parents in consultation with their child’s doctor.

The policy statement and accompanying technical report from the AAP will be published in the September 2012 issue of Pediatrics (published online Monday, Aug. 27). The documents update the previous policy that the AAP published in 1999 and reaffirmed in 2005.

The American Academy of Pediatrics found the health benefits of newborn male circumcision outweigh the risks, but the benefits are not great enough to recommend universal newborn circumcision.

Recent research has rekindled the debate on circumcision's role in halting the spread of HIV and sexually transmitted infections.

Another thing you will notice if you visit any anti-circumcision web site, is the complete lack of any benefits accruing from this simple procedure. These numerous benefits are simply and conveniently, totally overlooked. A quick glance at The Benefits section on this site will confirm so many that it would be worth having your son circumcised for any single one, let alone the whole list, it’s simply a no brainer.

Also absent from anti-circumcision web sites are any mention of the problems that your son will have to put up with if you don’t have him done. These are possibly even more serious than the unmentioned benefits.

Sex is always portrayed as being ruined if you've been circumcised. Nothing could be further from the truth. Numerous surveys and studies have confirmed that couples where the man is circumcised have sex more often, it lasts longer and is considered more enjoyable by both partners. Indeed, if your man is circumcised, you are 35% more likely to have an orgasm, than your unlucky uncircumcised friends. If sex really was ruined by being circumcised, then virtually all Americans would be condemned to second rate sex.

The anti-circumcision lobby is having a very bad time of it lately. Firstly, the AIDS trials in Africa recently, categorically proved that circumcised men are 65% less likely to contract the HIV virus than uncircumcised men. Also, if you haven't got AIDS then you can’t infect anyone else. Circumcision is probably the best weapon we currently have against the continued spread of STDs. All the lobby can do against this devastating evidence is try to pretend the trials were fatally flawed. They were not.

The findings are accepted by doctors worldwide and the WHO (World Heath Organisation) received a Nobel Prize for the research.

Another worrying thing for the lobbyists is that the AAP (American Association of Paediatricians) have recently come out in favour of routine infant circumcision in their latest pronouncement. The lobbyists have long made capital out of the fact that The AAP has never endorsed routine infant circumcision. Neither have they been against it. The lobbyists always conveniently ignore that important point. Up till now the panel has not consisted of doctors, but of administrators. Most doctors in the US have despaired that their views have not been represented.

These are just a few of the anomalies you will find on many anti-circumcision web sites, just be aware of them.
